You can buy or make baby shower invitations in many fun themes. Tiny Prints sells personalized shower invitations in cute themes.
If the baby shower has a theme, make or purchase invitations that tie-in with the theme.
Some ideas for homemade invitations include:
If you're mailing invitations, you're pretty much limited to standard card-style invitations. If you'll be hand-delivering the invitations (to family, neighbors, coworkers) you can have a little fun with 3 dimensional invitations, such as an invitation tied to a rubber ducky, a pink or blue balloon, or rolled and placed inside a baby bottle.
Invitations should be timed to reach the guests approximately 3 weeks before the party. This allows enough time for guests to "hold the date" and also allows time to collect RSVPs before you make your final purchases of party ware and shower favors.
Request RSVPs by phone or e-mail two weeks before the party. Follow-up with those you don't hear from 10 days before the party. Some guests may ask for Special Gift Ideas when they call to RSVP so have a few ideas in mind.
An invitation should clearly provide the following information:
Be sure to include any special information or requests. For example, if you want guests to dress-up or bring a baby photo, suggest this on the invitation.
Be clear about who is invited. Is the shower for women-only, couples, or
families?
If the shower location isn't well known, enclose a map. Google Maps will generate a map for most locations.
A nice touch is to buy or make Thank You notes for the mom-to-be to send after the shower.
